Welcome to the Pharmacology Research Staff Society
The Pharmacology Research Staff Society aims to provide a positive and supportive environment for all research staff within the department. The society aims to foster collaboration between groups, provide networking opportunities (both within the University and with Industrial partners), support career development, and provide an informal space for researchers to interact through regular seminars and social events.

Pharmacology Research Symposium 2025
The Pharmacology Research Staff Society is hosting and organising a one-day Research Symposium held at University of Oxford’s Department of Pharmacology on the 17th of January 2025. The event aims to showcase the research excellence from all research groups within the department as well as provide students and staff with the opportunity to present their research as either an oral or poster presentation. Don't forget to register for the event.
We will have industry sponsorship for the event including staff and student prizes for best oral presentation and best poster presentation, so do make sure to pop along to their stands on the day. The event is open to all PI’s, research staff and students within the department. Please register your attendance to ensure facilities are provided for all. A program for the symposium will be circulated to all who have registered on the 11th December.
Abstract submission
Please submit a 250 word abstract by noon on the 22nd November. Abstracts can include one figure if necessary and must be submitted as a PDF. Abstracts must include Introduction and Aims, Methods, Results and a Discussion section. Note, headings are not required. Please also supply a title, list of authors, and research group at the top of the PDF (not included in the word count). When submitting your abstract please specify if you are submitting it for an oral or poster presentation, or both. You will be notified during the first week of December if your abstract has been selected and further details will be provided regarding formatting posters and talks.
If you have any questions regarding the symposium, registration or abstract submission please contact researchstaffsoc@pharm.ox.ac.uk and a member of the team will be in touch as soon as possible.
Seminar Calendar
We host a regular seminar series each term which gives members the opportunity to showcase their research in an informal setting. We also regularly invite external speakers to provide insight into the different career paths available to researchers outside of academia.
If you would like to present at one of these seminars or have a suggestion for an external speaker please get in touch.

'Pairing' scheme for new members of the Department
The pairing scheme aims to link new members with someone more experienced who can act as a source of general support and help 'new starters' settle in to the department. Frequency and format of meeting can be decided by each pair and are intended to be relatively informal and are intended to provide opportunities to meet new people outside of your group/research field.
The Society pairing scheme is based on the ‘college advisee’ system for graduate students which aims to provide a source of general, not field-specific, support, on matters such as
- time management,
- managing relationships with academic colleagues and supervisors,
- pastoral support,
- advice on grants/fellowship applications, and
- general encouragement.
If you would like to be involved in the society pairing scheme (either as a 'new starter' or more experienced member of the department) please contact us
