The Hudson Award is presented biennially by the ACS Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry & Chemical Glycobiology (CARB), committed to advancing the field of carbohydrate chemistry and chemical glycobiology through support and collaboration. The Award recognises outstanding contributions to carbohydrate chemistry in education, research, or applications and is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to carbohydrate chemistry.
Professor Davis holds a joint appointment between the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford and Rosalind Franklin Institute (RFI), where he is Director of Next Generation Chemistry.
In December 2021, the Department announced a strategic partnership in Next Generation Chemistry with the RFI which has seen the bilateral movement of researchers between the Franklin and Oxford, widening access to the cutting-edge facilities at Harwell.
One of the key aims for the Davis group is to perform ‘in-cell chemistry’ – editing proteins and other biomolecules within the cell for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. This work is revolutionary in its approach, and is highly complementary to other Franklin themes, including mass spectrometry imaging, structural biology, and correlated imaging.
At the announcement of the award, Professor Davis said, “I am delighted and honoured to receive this award from the ACS. This reflects the support of both the Department of Pharmacology and the RFI to enable me and my group to continue to break boundaries in the area of carbohydrate chemistry and explore new and innovative research areas.”
