RESEARCH INTERESTS

EE research 1The research focus of the lab is the formation and function of membrane contact sites (MCS), regions where closely apposed organelles are physically connected through tethering complexes.  By providing platforms for protein interactions, signalling events, lipid exchange and calcium flux, MCS orchestrate and coordinate events throughout the cell, to meet cellular demand.

Using a combination of high resolution light and electron microscopy, we aim to improve understanding of the regulation, molecular architecture and function of MCS and to explore the therapeutic potential of their manipulation in retinal and neurodegenerative diseases.
