My project focuses on lineage relationships in the developing neocortex.

To date, while the clonal relationship in the neocortex has been extensively explored in animal models, a lack of appropriate human model systems has made human study difficult.

Recently our lab has successfully adapted human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)-derived cortical neurons techniques, providing a novel human model for studying clonal relatedness in the neocortex.

In this project, we are investigating whether the sister excitatory neurons in this human cell model preferentially develop synaptic connection with each other, instead of with adjacent non-sister neurons.
